About
Picture
I am an artist from Cary, Illinois, currently living and working in Gainesville, Florida. I received my BFA in Art Education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2020, where I also minored in Art History. I am now pursuing a Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting and a Graduate Certificate in Women’s Studies at the University of Florida (expected 2023). Recently in 2022, I have exhibited in Woman Made Gallery in Chicago, IL and Moisturizer Gallery in Gainesville, FL. In 2021, my work was included in Third Iris and The Huts Magazine publications.

My work explores themes of body awareness, intimacy, and the complexities of femininities through self-reflective processes and subjects. In my practice, I often call upon my personal history as a dancer, current experiences, and feminist theory to confront patriarchal notions of femininity as well as the nature of setting ideals/expectations on the femme body. I am interested in the nuanced ways in which gender performativity- and socially constructed gendered practices- are engaged with in the everyday on both a personal and collective level.

With a range of materials including tulle fabric, wax, acrylic paints, tissues, self care products, ribbon, thread, and even my own bodily fluids, my work creates instances where the relationship between our private self and public self become complicated and often contradictory.

Currently, I am interested in the ephemeral, haptic, and intangible elements of the materials I work with, and how I can push them beyond their literal suggestions and being. My work usually manifests in the form of temporary installations, where it is met with the potential (or challenge) to evolve and expand through time.
